This is a fascinating subject. One of my HUGE questions when i first started working on this path was the difference ( if any) between soul and spirit.
I threw it around the brain a lot and finally, one night when I was meditating, i decided to just ask , and this is what I was told.
There is a difference between spirit and soul.
Soul is the aspect of a being ( any being) that gives it spiritual connection- Spirit is the aspect that gives a being 'life force', 'life energy' to move from one stage to another.
Spirit is exclusive to each individual being on this earth; your spirit is yours and yours alone- it has never been before and will never be again- it is the life force of your soul for this period of life and at death your soul will go on to rebirth where as your spirit or life force usually remains between this plane and the etheric/astral levels.
Your soul is not YOU exclusively- it has been here before and most likely will be again, for it is that aspect of you that is learning and growing- your life force or spirit, which encompasses your personality, is the tool the soul is supplied with to help it achieve the growth it needs.
Physical body is the vehicle, soul is the passenger and spirit is the fuel that gets the other two from one place to another.
So, this then explains why, after death, some spirits are still accessible to us through medium ship etc.
Spirit never dies and it is never reused or recycled as the soul is, so basically, it stays between here and the next realm and can be reached through medium contact ( if it wishes to be).
At death, the soul ALWAYS goes on, but the spirit may stay or at least not be gone forever.
Everything that has ever been here, still is, in one way or another.
Example- my soul; the soul of Lisa has been upon this earth before however, the spirit of Lisa has not.
After my death my soul will reincarnate but my spirit will not.
My spirit will remain Lisa. Lisa is going to live in spirit.
There will never be another Lisa even though the soul that was known as Lisa has moved on and reincarnated to be someone else.
So in 200 years after my death, my soul may have returned to the earth plane two or three times, but never again as Lisa- it will always have a new life force or spirit to maneuver it through its life time; this means that in 200 years time, my ggg grandchildren can go to a medium and be startled to come into contact with me.
It is my spirit , the energy of my life force,they will encounter- my etheric energy blueprint that never dies so is never reborn.
Moving freely between realms , spirit works as guides, guardian angels etc for those of us still wearing the physical.
Another example is my recently passed pet Will; I felt the exact moment that Will's soul left his body and yet, technically, he was still alive- his spirit was still strong.
I often see or feel him around me at home and i know that his spirit has chosen to remain there, in his favourite place despite the fact that his soul went on before his 'death' .
Spirit is everywhere- all that have lived have left the energy blueprint of their life here on the earth plane and with the change in the earths energy, it is becoming easier to access them, to see and work with them.
We are a crowded earth but I was told that many life spirits feel that their work here is done and quite happily move to the etheric level or the astral plane.
This line of thought would also end all those people who say 'in my last life i was............whatever' because in truth, no, they weren't.
Their soul may have been there, but as another person, with another life force.
