Popular Arthurian Characters part one by Lisa Ballico
There are SO many characters/place in Arthurian Mythology, that at times it can be overwhelming trying to absorb. Add to this, the fact that every Author gives different qualities to each character/place and it can become hard to locate what you need to know. I have listed below some names that are re-occuring through the mythology( and there are MANY more) regardless of author. The list may give you a starting point on Arthurian journey.
( i have added comments/qualifiers where possible) ARTHUR- High King of Brition,son of IGRAINE and UTHER PENDRAGON AVALON- Island of the Goddess and Her devotees- seperated from the 'real' world by the lake and the mists. CAMELOT- ARTHUR's city DUKE CORLOIS-IGRAINE's first husband and father of MORGAINE GALAHAD- SON of LANCELOT and EILEEN, finder of the HOLY GRAIL GUENEVERE- Daughter of KING LEODEGRANCE, wife of ARTHUR, Queen of Britian KAY/KYE/CAY - ARTHUR'S foster brother LADY OF THE LAKE- Guardian of the waters seperating AVALON of the 'real' world LANCELOT- Head Knight of the Round table MERLIN- Wise man with strong influence over ARTHUR MORDRED-Son of MORGAINE by her half brother ARTHUR MORGAINE aka MORGAN LE FAY- Half sister of ARTHUR ( Her extent of maliciousness depends totally on the author in question) MORGAUSE- Sister of IGRAINE, Wife of KING LOT OF LOTHIAN SIR ECTOR - ARTHUR'S foster father TINTAGEL- sea side castle home of DUKE GORLOIS and IGRAINE during their brief marriage.
