Ode to Jackson Browne by Lisa Ballico

She listened to the music
of the man she knew so well
She knew his pain & sorrows,
the stories he could tell
She knew his heart & soul,
but she knew him not at all
He laid his stories bare and strangers he did console.

He was a master poet,
his rhymes all told a tale
Singing of life & loneliness,
of surviving when you fail
He danced the life she lived,
he shared in every moment
His songs all played the scenes,
her life he laid wide open

She loved him for his words,
as many others did
He’d been there in the fabric
of her life,
since she was still a kid

The soul, the song, the joy
balanced over by the pain
A lesson to be learnt,
played over time again

He was her favourite singer,
this man she knew so well
but knew him not at all,
not a word between them fell.
Yet there he was around her,
infused in all her space
touching on parts of her own life
that she wouldn’t even face

She thanks him for the music,
for the sharing of his life
She thanks for expressions,
of issues on his mind

It was a sacred circle dance,
this feeling with him shared
Through hard times,
rough times, painful days
His voice was always there.

When did the words come ?
How did he feel?
How did he live this life ?
How could a man so different understand
whats in her mind

It sums it up so wonderfully,
that life is shared by all
The highs, the lows, the living,
is the same for all to know

The master poet
writes the words
The crowds they add the feel
And his songs will live forever,
whenever feelings are revealed

She listens to the music
of the man she knows so well
Shes heard & felt them all
and the stories that they tell.
Shes seen her life played through his songs,
he’s helped her when she’d fall
This man shes known forever,
Yet she knows him not at all
