Merwether, NSW Australia
The very popular area of Newcastle named Merewether was one of the first 'towns' established in the Newcastle area. Originally divided into three seperate parts- Glebe, The Junction and the Potters End, each section had its own Town Clerk and council body. These days, the Potters End no longer exists except in the mind of the older folks but the Junction area is thriving and the Glebe area still referred to as the Glebe. Merewether is a highly sort after residential area in Newcastle being close to shops, beaches, Newcastle City, schools, restuarants and all the infrastructure a community can need. It no longer has its own Town Clerk or council, instead coming under the umbrella of the Newcastle City Council as a suburb of Newcastle. Merewether is steeped in history and many of the first families of Newcastle are know to have settled on land in and around the Glebe, Potters End and the Junction.
